UK Tour Goes Swimmingly for Australian U17s Water Polo Team

The Anderton Centre is hosting the Australian Schools Water Polo boys’ and girls’ teams during their international tour.

The teams are visiting the UK between 5th – 16th December 2018 for an action packed 11-day tour, organised by the English Schools Swimming Association (ESSA) working closely with Water Polo England.

Around 40 players from the boys and girls Under 17s teams are currently staying at the Chorley-based activity centre.

During their time in England, the Aussies will be travelling the length of the country competing against a whole host of Regional, Club and School select teams.

One of the highlights of their tour will take place in Manchester at the East Manchester Leisure Centre and the Jason Kenny Centre in Bolton over 3 days, 7-9 December, when the Australians will be joined by the England 2002 Boys and Girls teams, and the Romanian Boys team for an International tournament.

The tour will conclude in London where the Australian teams will play their final fixtures against the England 2001 boys’ and girls’ teams at Whitgift School, Croydon.

David Germain, Centre Manager at the Anderton Centre, said: “We are delighted to welcome the Australian boys’ and girls’ water polo teams to the Anderton Centre! They have a very busy schedule during their international tour and we are pleased we are able to provide a comfortable setting where they are being well fed and able to get a good night’s sleep.”

During their visit, the group also took a well-deserved break from their training to take part in some of the many activities available at the centre, including raft building and canoeing.

The visit to the Anderton Centre was the result of the centre’s Chair of Trustees’ links with the English School Swimming Association, who have organised the tour.
