LOAI Becomes Part Of The Bolton University Group

Lancashire Outdoor Activities Initiative (LOAI) and the Anderton Centre has always had strong links to Bolton through its relationship with the Bolton Sports Alliance (BSA).

The BSA consists of Bolton Wanderers Community Trust, Bolton Lads and Girls Club, Bolton School and LOAI and aims to provide high quality sport and physical education opportunities for the community of Bolton using recognised local deliverers.

In September 2018 LOAI was offered support from the University of Bolton (UoB) through its links to the BSA. This link was to initially offer additional opportunities to students studying at the University. It became clear very quickly that representatives from UoB shared LOAI’s passion and values for increasing opportunities in Outdoor Education.

As a result of this a more permanent relationship was proposed. After a period of due diligence LOAI became part of the University of Bolton Group, which includes UoB, Bolton College, Bolton UTC and Alliance Learning.

The benefits of this collaboration have been considerable, including new trustee members for LOAI who have brought a wealth of skills and experience to the charity.

The peak season for activities for the LOAI’s Anderton Centre have traditionally been April to September and therefore the synergy with the academic period of educational establishments of October to March will hopefully mean the Anderton Centre and the activities remain busy all year round.

The aims of the Charity are to:

  • Increase the provision of faculties available at the Centre
  • Widen the reach of the centre and attract visitors from across the whole of the North West
  • Become the market leader in the delivery of high quality outdoor education
  • Increase the number of corporate clients utilising the facilities for conferencing and team building activities

The collaboration with the University of Bolton will enable LOAI to enhance its operation and provide more activities all year round, therefore contributing to the core aims of the charity.
