The National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS) and the Walthew House Youth Club (WHYC) Stockport have had a close association with LOAI over the past ten years. Coordinator of WHYC, June Battye, knew the Anderton Centre was the ideal place to bring a group of 6-14 year old deaf children for an activity day.

The group had a tremendously successful day participating in a range of land and water-based activities which gave them a sense of belonging and built confidence, demonstrating that anything is possible with the right support.

June commented, “This has been a really challenging time for children and young people and to have the opportunity to learn in this way was just so beneficial. The team at the Anderton Centre understand the children’s communication needs and how best to work alongside them in the activities we undertook. They came together as a group of peers who understand what it’s like to be deaf and how best to help each other to gain skills for life. The activities helped them to build their confidence and develop their language skills.”
June has since booked additional activities in 2021 and continues to recommend the Centre to groups of all ages that are looking to develop their team building skills.

She concluded, “The Anderton Centre team genuinely believe in giving everyone a chance to enjoy outside activities in a safe manner. The facilities and range of activities available at the Centre enable everyone, regardless of their skill level, the ability to take part and have fun.”

Based at the beautiful Rivington reservoir, the Centre is ideally located for any group or individual from Lancashire, Greater Manchester or Cheshire.
