Mark Skuce was looking for a RYA level 2 sailing course to enable him to have the necessary skills to sail dinghy’s on inland waters and following some research found a site local to him that delivered exactly what he needed.
The Anderton Centre, based on Rivington reservoir offers a range of specialist water and land based training courses so Mark decided to undertake his RYA level 2 sailing course at the centre.
As Mark already had good sailing skills his course was delivered within one day instead of the usual two days for those who are less experienced.
Mark thoroughly enjoyed his day and completed his training course successfully, commenting, “The location was superb, as were the facilities, staff and dinghy’s used for the training. David Germain who led the training course was a really nice person to spend the day with, and I also thought the other instructors who were working with some children on the site that day were also really friendly, and the kids obviously really liked them.”
The Centre has been associated with the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) for 18 yearsand runs dinghy sailing and powerboat courses throughout the year. These are delivered to people of all skill levels and are managed in small groups where the training is tailored to the specific people being trained.
Mark concluded, “I genuinely had a cracking day. It was interesting to see how happy all the staff I encountered were. I felt welcomed and chatted to a few staff members. David was excellent company and definitely knew his sailing. He recognised my skill level and adapted accordingly and I have no doubt he would be just as good with other people with less or more skills than me. The centre would benefit from more storage space so that they could have a bigger choice of dinghy’s, perhaps even run their own sailing club. The location would be perfect for this.”
The training courses at the club are extremely popular and include paddle sports, mountain leader courses as well as first aid training courses. These are all delivered by highly qualified, personable and skilled instructors.
